Objects In Mirror Are Closer..

There used to be midnights
spent resting in ice cubes,
threatened by the heat of our dreams
to thaw away to nothing.

There used to be mid-days
when trees sprouting gray hairs
on the sideburns of our route
would make you crave a U-turn.

There never was sunrise
of bed head and morning breath
blended with potpourri aromas
to fulfill our appetites.  

There never was nightfall
with advice to be home by midnight;
before we were left with nothing
but mice, a pumpkin, and one glass slipper.
