Literature Text

These days, it’s like lovers have become
one hit wonders, picking at their scabs
because they’re not afraid of death, only
forgetting how they’ve lived.

Our widest fear is the constellations
pulsating fevers while we’re calling love
every name in the book; your fondest
memory of me is now but sleep in your eyes.

Masterpieces scribble upon dilapidated wallpaper
of how nobody cares, then raise hell
about how all the breath-taking gardens
are being devoured, so why shouldn’t they
be the next to die?

I know this bastard with hopes of becoming a father.
He taught me that unwatered plants isn’t giving up,
and pornography and buffets aren’t freedom.
He was troubled to the extent of refusing to wear socks,
as it reminded him of the cellophane goals he once had
wrapped about his fingers.

One can’t blame him for taking it personally
that he was never branded a “lover boy,”
merely advised to “love her, boy.”

(I’ve always thought he was right
in the sense that kites have their curfew, too.)

I furtively appreciated the snowstorm of his nudity,
the blackout of his virginity, but
they’ll never understand how they understand him
every time he draws a blank.
So you might feel obligated to play cat and mouse games with some of the meanings behind this piece in order to conquer it, if you will. I admit that a good lot of this is left up to the imagination.;)

I thank you sincerely for reading. :)
